Changing Medicare Programs Impact Physician Payments

Physician payments are undergoing a sea change as payers seek to reward quality over volume. New regulations and policies coming from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services make it essential for cardiothoracic surgeons to stay apprised of changes in reporting requirements and performance benchmarks.

Today’s Health Policy Forum will focus on recent changes to the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). MIPS assesses physicians in four categories—quality, resource use, participation in clinical practice improvement activities, and use of electronic health records. Attendees will learn what they are required to report and how they can achieve maximum scores in all four categories.

In addition, Alternative Payment Models and bundled payments for coronary artery bypass grafting surgery will be discussed.
